As the Mad Scientist looks to defend his first PGA Tour title amid a bizarre situation with the USGA, Bryson DeChambeau is out to prove he doesn't need his 'drawing compass' to win.
Francesco Molinari aims to be victorious in back-to-back starts as we move one week closer to Carnoustie. Other notes about the field that will take on TPC Deere Run, six of the top-25 in the FedEx Cup standings will be competing (Austin Cook, Bryson DeChambeau, Chesson Hadley, Patton Kizzire, Aaron Wise, & Andrew Landry).
Steve Stricker, the last 3-peat winner on the PGA, is back for his 17th appearance at the John Deere Classic. JDC board member Zach Johnson, who owns this course, will also be competing here for a 10th time. Chilean star Joaquin Niemann, who just received his PGA Tour Card, is looking to earn his first professional win this week.
TPC Deere Run is a risk/reward type of layout as it lies next to Rock River in Silvis, Ill. There are elevation changes throughout the course that can lead to a stretch of birdies for players that get in a groove.
The 18 hole record here is a 59 shot by Paul Goydos in 2010 while the 72 hole record was shot by Steve Stricker in the same year. Considering the winning score was 18-under last year, I'd expect a similar outcome for the winning score.
